For some reason, it didn't occur to me to read to Squid until last week. I figured, he can't comprehend the story, so why read? Well, I was sure wrong!
One quiet afternoon, we sat on the couch after his big nap of the day with Hop On Pop, by Dr. Seuss. He stared and coo-ed and kicked and did fist pumps that would have made Snookie proud. He liked the pages with red and orange the best. He told me so.
And so, his reading career begins!
A vote for our little reader?
This is so nice and he's sooo happy!!!

there is a fun blog called Today's Letters, and on Fridays they do "Fist pump Fridays" and leg kicks is also part of it! You should submit this sweet pic of your Squiddy. What a doll! And, Dr. Seuss was definitely my favorite when I was a little girl. :)

I've heard reading can be beneficial for babies from like 3 weeks or so! Such a great idea. Dr. Seuss is the best. I taught myself to read with Green Eggs and Ham!

My son's first book was Goodnight Moon and he loved every moment of it. I made a point to start reading to him early and expanded to more and more and more books. It was how his use of words started because he would "read along" by saying words he new. The first time he said "hush" during Goodnight Moon I shed a tear. Keep up the reading!! Oh and you should check out the Oh David books!! Fun, funny and easy first words to learn.

Gorgeous! My son didn't 'get' reading until he was about 18 months old, we kept trying but he preferred to jump or dance or throw things. I felt like a terrible mother, but then one night, he suddenly loved snuggling up with me and having a bedtime story. Don't despair if his love of reading comes and goes- he'll get it one day, and with a great encouraging Mum like you, he'll be great in the end :)

Such a cute picture. Yay for reading with him! Get him some soft fabric books that he can "read" for himself. Adam and Laura even had some we could stick photos in that they loved.

Such a great shot, that last one. Reading early to children is wonderful. It develops their love for stories and books, and helps with language development, among other things. Good job, mama!

This is adorable, come on! Passing your kid a love for books is one of the best gifts you can ever give him.

It's never too early to start! It's so much fun to watch kids' reactions to the illustrations, and it just gets better.
