(Monday, late lunch at Chipotle with our friends Kerena, Patrick and their daughter K)
"What are you guys doing for New Years Eve?"
Us: "Nothing. Wanna hang out?"
"Sure. Lets do dinner!"
"Sure!... wait, that's tomorrow, right?!"
"Yup."

We had a few friends over for New Years Eve for a last minute get together. As in, I served boxed lasagna from Target and heated up some bottled pear cider and made salad from a pre-made mix. That's last minute for me. I didn't even have balloons! I like to have pretty, swirly parties with from-scratch food and things planned out way ahead of time. We did a potluck and it was BYOB, so it was much easier than me trying to do everything. Everyone helping out really made it less stress for this Momma!
Despite the last minute nature of the evening, we had a blast! Nothing like having some of your closest friends over to ring in the new year. Everyone arrived at different times (2 of the three couples, after dinner) and we had a table with snacks and dessert laid out to sooth munchies. Let me talk about the dessert for a second. My sweet friend Kerena made the desserts FROM SCRATCH. dairy-free peanut butter buckeyes, BACON-CHOCOLATE cupcakes and dairy-free fruit tarts with almond yogurt! Seriously guys, it looked like she went to a swanky sweet shop and spend $80 on desserts. She's got mad skills.
We had such a fantastic time. The ladies gathered around the fire and the guys drank Crown and talked about zombies. We watched the ball drop and kissed our loves at midnight as a new year entered the room. I wore a grey dress and mustard tights and my turquoise slipper-mocs 'cause I'm swanky like that, and didnt get a picture even though I wish I had. After midnight, we put in 200 Cigarettes, one of my all-time favorite holiday movies, and watched most of it. Everyone went home or to sleep (Matt and Natty stayed over!) except Matt and Dustin who stayed up until 3:30am playing Dark Souls on xBox. I know this because I fell asleep on the couch and woke up to Dustin telling me that it was time to go to bed...
I woke up to my poor Husband frantic because he couldn't find the power cord to the electric griddle and he wanted to make pancakes for our guests. My love does NOT take kitchen stress well. Gosh, I love him.
I hope you New Years Eve was filled with important people and a kiss at midnight. :)
Lots of love,
Violet
